PhD PROGRAMS

Students who have graduated/are about to graduate from an Undergraduate or Master’s program can apply for the PhD programs listed below. Applicants with a Master’s degree should have an ALES Quantitative exam result min. 60 or a GRE Quantitative min. 650; applicants with an Undergraduate degree should have an ALES Quantitative exam result min. 75 or a GRE Quantitative min. 725. Applicants with an Undergraduate degree should also have a min. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 3.00 (80 over 100).

Applicants should have one of the following English exam results that satisfy the minimum requirements: Min. 70 from one of the National exams; KPDS or ÜDS (not older than 5 years), or one of the following international exams not older than 2 years:  min. 65 from TOEFL-ibt, min. 155 from TOEFL-cbt, min. 470 from TOEFL-pbt or min. 5,75 from every section of IELTS. Applications that don’t satisfy the minimum exam result requirement will not be accepted.

  Electronics and Communication:  Undergraduate or Master’s degree from one of the following departments: ►Electric-Electronics Engineering  ►Electronics Engineering ►Electronics and Communication Engineering  ►Telecommunication Engineering  ►Control Engineering ►Computer Engineering ►Biomedical Engineering ►Mechanical Engineering ►Mathematics Engineering ►Physics Engineering ►Physics (Faculty of Science) ►Mathematics (Faculty of Science) ►Statistics.  

  Physics: Master’s degree from one of the following faculty departments► Science section of a Faculty of Science and Letters Faculty of Science ► Science section of a Faculty of Education ► Faculty of Engineering departments.

  Food Engineering: Master’s degree from one of the following faculty departments ► Biochemistry (Faculty of Science) ► Biology related departments of Faculty of Science (Molecular Biology, Basic and Industrial Microbiology, General Biology) ►Chemistry (Faculty of Science) ► Physics (Faculty of Science) ► Departments of Faculty of Engineering ►Food Hygiene and Technology (Faculty of Veterinary) ►Milk Technology (Faculty of Agriculture) ► Food Engineering (Faculty of Agriculture)

  Chemistry: Undergraduate degree from Department of Chemisty (Faculty of Science) or Master’s degree from Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Science)

  Chemical Engineering: Master’s degree from one of the following departments: Chemical Engineering   ►Mechanical Engineering   ►Food Engineering  ►Environmental Engineering ►Biotechnology and Bioengineering  ►Material Science and Engineering ►Energy Engineering.

  Mechanical Engineering: Undergraduate and Master’s degree from one of the Engineering Departments.

  Mathematics: Undergraduate or Master’s degree from one of the following departments: ►Mathematics (Faculty of Science) ►Mathematics (Faculty of Education) ►Physics (Faculty of Science) ►Statistics ►Astronomy and Space Sciences ►A Faculty of Engineering Department.  

  Architecture:  To have an Undergraduate and Master’s degree

  Molecular Biology and Genetics: Undergraduate or Master’s degree from one of the following departments: ►Molecular Biology and Genetics (Faculty of Science)  ►Biology (Faculty of Science)   ►Bioengineering (Faculty of Engineering)   ►Faculty of Pharmacy  ►Medical School  ►Faculty of Veterinary  ►Faculty of Agriculture ►Nature Sciences

  City Planning:  Undergraduate degree from City Planning and Master’s degree from a program related to City Planning (Urban Design, City Planning, Geographical Information Systems, Urban Policies etc.) ► Undergraduate degree from Landscape Architecture and Master’s degree from City Planning or Urban Design ► Undergraduate degree from Architecture and Master’s degree from Urban Design or Spatial Design  (It is preferred that applicants submit their portfolios including their projects, research etc.)

INTERDISCIPLINARY PhD PROGRAMS

Students who have graduated/are about to graduate from a Master’s program can apply for the PhD programs listed below. Applicants should have an ALES Quantitative exam result min. 60 or a GRE Quantitative min. 650.

 Engineering Management: (Without thesis, classes in evening, payments to be made per course taken, applicants should be exempt from English Language requirement) Undergraduate degree from a department of the following Faculties►Faculty of Engineering   ►Faculty of Architecture  ►Faculty of Arts  ►Faculty of Science  ►Faculty of Social Sciences or ►Departments belonging to HighSchools that give undergraduate degree in 4 years.

 

 

 

Scientific Preparatory Program (Master’s or PhD Conditional)
Some students accepted to graduate programs may be asked to attend the Conditional Program before starting their normal programs, to reach the necessary level of knowledge on the discipline they are to study.

Exemption from English Requirement and English Preparatory Class
Language of education is English and applicants should satisfy one of the conditions below to be exempted from English Preparatory Program.

Applicants admitted to Master’s Programs,

 Ø    Should have graduated from a University in which the language of education is completely English. Or,

Ø     Should submit a KPDS or ÜDS exam result, minimum 70 (not older than 5 years). Or, a TOEFL or IELTS exam result (not older than 2 years) with the following minimum requirements: TOEFL-IBT ≥ 65 or TOEFL-CBT ≥ 155 or TOEFL-PBT ≥ 470 or IELTS ≥ 5.75 from every section. Or,

Ø     Should pass from the English Proficiency Exam which will be held at the Campus on 26 January 2010, 10 a.m. (All students admitted can enter this exam). Addres for the exam is:  Ýzmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü Kampüsü Yabancý Diller Bölümü Derslikler Binasý Gülbahçe Köyü Urla-ÝZMÝR

If they cannot satisfy one of the conditions above, they shall start the Preparatory Program in 2010-2011 Fall Semester.

But, Engineering Management Program is an exception. Students who apply for Engineering Management Program have to satisfy one of the exemption requirements above. They do not have the right to continue the Preparatory Program. If they cannot satisfy any of the requirements, they will not be registered to the program.

PhD Applicants,

Applicants who send the documents by mail are responsible from the delivery on time.

Applications that do not provide any of the necessary documents will not be accepted.

 

Documents Necessary for Application

1)  2 passport photos

2)  Official transcript (The original document and as many copies as the programs applied is necessary when submitting by hand; As many certified copies as the programs applied is necessary if sent through the mail)

■ Applicants who have not yet graduated can use their current transcript that shows their grades up to nearest semester.

■ Applicants of PhD programs with a Master’s Degree should submit both their Undergraduate and Master’s transcripts.

3)  If possible, an official document that shows at which rank the student graduated from the department. (as many as the programs applied)

4)  LES* or ALES exam result (not older than 2 years), or GRE exam result (not older than 2 years).  (The original document and as many copies as the programs applied is necessary when submitting by hand; As many certified copies as the programs applied is necessary if sent through the mail)

■ For Master’s applications, LES Quantitative result should be minimum 50 or ALES Quantitative result should be minimum 60 or GRE Quantitative result should be minimum 650
■ For PhD applications with a Master’s degree,
LES Quantitative result should be minimum 50 or ALES Quantitative result should be minimum 60 or GRE Quantitative result should be minimum 650
■ For PhD applications with an Undergraduate degree,
LES Quantitative result should be minimum 60 or ALES Quantitative result should be minimum 75 or GRE Quantitative result should be minimum 725

* Applications with LES results older than 2 years, which satisfy the exam result requirement- will be counted valid under the conditions below:

■ If the applicant left another Master’s program by the end of 2008-2009 Spring Semester or in 2009-2010 Fall Semester. (In this case, the applicant should submit the original and a copy of the related document proving this situation)

■ If the applicant graduated from another Master’s program by the end of 2008-2009 Spring Semester or in 2009-2010 Fall Semester. (In this case, the applicant should submit the original and a copy of the graduation document)

■ If the applicant is in a position to graduate from a Master’s program in 2009-2010 Fall Semester.

5)  TOEFL, IELTS, KPDS or ÜDS exam result  (The original document and as many copies as the programs applied is necessary when submitting by hand; As many certified copies as the programs applied is necessary if sent through mail)

(KPDS or ÜDS min. 70 (not older than 5 years) or not older than 2 years exam results of; TOEFL-IBT min. 65, TOEFL-CBT min. 155. TOEFL-PBT min. 470 , or min. 5.75 from every section of IELTS.

6)  2 Reference Letters (the link below contains the form to be filled by two separate recommenders and submitted in separate closed envelopes)

9) A receipt of the application fee Application fee is 50 TL (Turkish Lira), which covers applications for up to two programs. The fee should be deposited to the following bank account:
